PORCELAIN DOLLS

Her skin is glass.
It stings like the biting air after a storm
Her fragile bones
are home to fear
and it
won’t.
go.
away.

She is familiar with this ache
The kind of pain that tells you
her paper heart has been torn before.
​
“What is love?” She wonders.
She has never tasted that kind of sugar.
​
But then He comes around.
The sugar is on her lips, in her hair
Now she knows what it feels like
to
love.
​
But all of a sudden,
She’s become drunk on praise,
she flies too close to the sun,
and her porcelain wings shatter.
​
He discards her broken pieces.
